Plumb Furniture Series by Sehun Oh

September 26, 2015

After seeing the classic 606 shelving system by dieter rams, Sehun Oh sought to incorporate its modular design elements into his ‘plumb furniture series’. The pieces use three different variations of angled connectors: 83°, 90° and 97° to create a rigid structure while allowing the user to modify each work to its specific context. The connectors are manufactured via injected mould processes creating durable joints suitable for daily use.

The Architecture of Burning Man 2015

September 13, 2015

With the unofficial end of summer also comes the close of Burning Man, a radical annual festival in Nevada's Black Rock Desert drawing together artsy folk, techies, celebrities, and this year, even a plague of insects. Each year from the last week of August to Labor Day, festival goers erect a temporary city of sorts filled with fantastical installations and a giant wooden effigy that would be set aflame. Call it fun, profound, or insufferably hipster, but this year, drawing some 70,000 attendees overall, the event sure gave rise to some incredible design and architecture—a few gorgeous snaps from Bjarke Ingels are just the start.

The Sheats Goldstein Residence by John Lautner

August 31, 2015

Designed and built between 1961 and 1963 in Beverly Crest, Los Angeles, the building was conceived from the inside out and built into the hillside; a cave-like dwelling that opens to embrace nature and view. The house is an example of American Organic Architecture that derives its form as an extension of the natural environment and of original owner.

GROWTH by Ayaskan

August 17, 2015

There's nothing quite like London-based Studio Ayaskan's new concept, GROWTH. More than just exquisite geometric patterning, the pot actually unfolds and grows as the plant it holds blooms and its roots extend. The origami-like nature of the piece sets it apart beautifully. Thus, one can forego repotting and allow the planter and plant to thrive together as the plant itself pushes the container outward as it expands.

With an array of tools, Nicolas Aracena Müller stands just beyond the windows of design boutique Chamber in NYC's Chelsea neighborhood. There, while the gallery space is open to visitors and passers-by, the Chilean architect and carpenter has been crafting inspired stools and benches from reclaimed wood, for all to see.

Snap by Be-Elastic

July 12, 2015

Spanish designers Maria Roca and Erika Biarnes of new company Be-elastic have come up with a creative way to help furniture keep up with our increasing mobile, space-conscious and environmentally-sensitive lives. Their first design, SNAP, is a steel loop leg that clamps on and off—making it possible to create a bench, table, shelf and more out of almost any flat surface.
